Two-foot countermovement jump · measured by flight time

Power

The engine of speed. One max countermovement jump, measured by flight time.

What it measures

Vertical force production in one maximal effort — how much you can put into the ground, and how quickly.

Why it matters

This is the quality built in the gym, and it feeds every other number on the radar: force produced vertically is what gets converted into horizontal force in the first step. It is also the most sensitive of the six. A countermovement jump drops before an athlete says they feel tired, which makes it the cheapest early warning a coach has for accumulated fatigue — one jump, and you know whether today is a hard day or not.

The protocol

How to run it

1

Phone in portrait, side-on, full body in frame.

2

Stand completely still for two seconds — the engine calibrates your standing height.

3

One max jump: dip, explode, arm swing allowed. Legs straight in the air and at landing.

4

Height comes from flight time — your centre of mass, not your reach.

How the app measures

Flight time is read from the feet leaving and reaching the ground, interpolated between frames; height = g·t²/8. A centre-of-mass cross-check means tucking your knees mid-air doesn't inflate the number.

A deliberate knee-tuck was tested in the field — it does not raise the result. That's the point. And we won't put a combine number beside yours: those are measured on a Vertec, by how high a hand reaches, which sits roughly 14 cm above where the body's centre of mass actually got. Different quantity, flattering direction. We quote ours.
